PAST CONTINUOUS/PAST PROGRESSIVE


Past continuous tenses atau yang sering disebut juga dengan past progressive tense adalah tense yang menyatakan bahwa kejadian atau aktifitas tersebut sedang terjadi atau berlangsung pada waktu tertentu dimasa lampau.Tense ini mempunyai kemiripan dengan present continuous tense, akan tetapi yang membedakan adalah past continuous tense terjadi pada masa lampau sedangkan present continuous tense terjadi pada masa kini.

Pola atau Bentuk Kalimat Past Continuous Tense

Pola kalimat past continuous tense dibentuk dari pola Subject plus was/were dan juga Verb-ing(present participle) sebagai main verbnya atau ordinary verbnya.

Konsep dasar past continuous tense adalah Was/were + Verb-ing (present participle)

Fungsi-fungsi tenses present continuous

  • Menyatakan aktifitas atau kejadian yang sedang terjadi dimasa lampau.
They were studying English in the class yesterday morning.
  • Menyatakan kebiasaan (Menggambarkan kejengkelan/kemarahan)
He was always borrowing my shoes without permission when he was a senior high school.

Pola kalimat diatas pada umumnya terdapat kata keterangan frekuensi (adverb of frequency) berupa "Forever/Always/Constantly".
